National Mall
The National Mall is what makes DC, DC! This is where you can visit the Washington monument, Lincoln memorial, the Capital, the Senate, and the Lincoln memorial reflecting pool! Each was designed on purpose to be in a completely straight line. If you look on your map, search "Washington Monument" and zoom a little out from there. In a line, you'll see the memorials and houses in place. It was all done on purpose to look neat and organized for our nation.
I have always admired DC in many ways. I sometimes miss living there cause of the incredible people I met and the things I did during the time of being there. But there is always something for someone somewhere, right? Well the national mall just does that for any tourist. If you do not like the idea of food trucks, then go enjoy a nice rooftop lunch with an incredible view of all the monuments! It makes great use for pictures and stories to tell of course! No matter the season, the National Mall has many activities to do. During the winter, you can visit the bright Christmas lights and trees. I remember grabbing hot chocolate with my family and enjoying the merry sights of caroling and snow!
Between the monuments are huge flat fields to sit on and do whatever! Usually, there are food trucks to get a nice snack too. The common thing you will see on a sunny day in DC is a lot of frisbee playing, group gatherings, picnics, people bike riding, etc! It is a very youthful area filled with family-friendly fun! I personally loved making a picnic and meeting my friends over by a perfect spot under the trees. Afterward, we would just hang out in the cool breeze and enjoy each other's company.
The National Mall is also known for cherry blossom season! Huge, beautiful, bright pink and white cherry blossom trees are lined all across the rivers and lakes. Huge festivals are held in the busy dc areas. All are japanese related with delicious snacks and of course, kimonos! Each museum you visit in dc will also always hold a cherry blossom section for how glorified it is there. You will learn a lot about its history there if you visit during cherry blossom season. It lasts from late winter to all of spring. They will be scattered all across virginia too! I do recommend stopping by a cafe nearby during that season and festivities in order to get the special cherry blossom flavored lattes! They are quite the treat and may not be for everyone. But if you love that floral taste and pops of tastiness, then this is definitely the drink for you! Other than yummy coffee/treats and cherry blossom season, the National Mall holds many events for all ages and makes sure everyone has their own fun and is included!
During May, the National Mall is famous for taking senior pictures and graduation pictures. Not to mention, it was a great area for taking homecoming/prom pictures with yourself and friends too! For me, I took my graduation pictures at the Lincoln Memorial. It was during perfect weather and a sunset! Across from the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument was a reflecting pool. It displayed the relfection of the monuments very well.
My senior pictures at the National Mall :)
