National Cathedral
The National Cathedral is a well-known tourist spot in dc. The beautiful stained glass, chilling architecture, statues, high ceilings of many different patterns, etc. are all that make the National Cathedral in dc so fascinating and unique. You can take a tour as a field trip, a family/friend group, or even do your own tour! I went with my family for senior pictures and then did our own tour afterward. When you enter the premises, there are many gardens and statues guarding the entryway before you walk in. Huge archways will take you on breathtaking paths for perfect camera shots. I recommend walking around the cathedral since there are gardens, detailed fountains, and even a little library with a coffee shop inside to see!
When I entered the cathedral the first thing I noticed was the cool breeze the entire building presents you with. It's quite chilly inside so I suggest dressing warm and cozy for the journey. When I was with my family we walked straight ahead from the entry doors. The first thing I noticed were these huge, very colorful, detailed stained glass windows all along the tall walls providing heavenly-like sunbeams hitting the floor perfectly. Columns were aligned evenly as you walk by the benches towards the very front.
The people that work there for the museum part are all very welcoming and polite. They answer any questions you have and make sure you are comfortable with everything! We had a pretty good tour guide and map guide as well to get around. There are many classrooms, separate children learning areas, organs at the front of the cathedral worship area and of course, the beautiful gold accents of each statue and mural.
During my time at the cathedral, we visited the crypts. This is where past popes would be buried. Their coffins were detailed with many flowers and art on the coffin too. This would be the coldest part of the cathedral. When I entered inside, there were fewer colors and more dark accents of lighting and stones. The coffins would either be in a separate room or along the hallway with columns and other decorations. Other rooms would be choir meeting rooms, storage, training rooms, etc. My favorite part of being at the National Cathedral was the main area which is called the "Nave". Everything about the basilican architecture and history is fascinating to experience and even have the opportunity to look upon. The walls, floors, ceilings, and windows all line up symmetrically and complement each other. I recommend spending your day here at the cathedral during your time in dc!
Here are some senior pictures my mom took at the time we were there. :)

The Cathedral looks amazing!! I've been to a lot of government sites in DC and had not been here, that's going to change next time I go.
